Review Adventure
Review Adventure is a game that I created to get my students more excited about studying English and prepare them for their upcoming exams. I wanted the game to be very simple so that even my elementary school students could play.
After starting at my current company, I noticed there was a lack of materials to help students review what they had learned in a fun and meaningful way. Overall, the game has been successful but it took quite a lot of iterations to get it right. At first, the game was mostly a quiz style game with only points. I also noticed that some students were really shy when it came to answering harder questions. So the first thing I did was make multiple levels of questions so that students could get confidence first if they wanted before taking on harder questions. After that, I wanted something more interactable for students. At first, I made a normal board game style board for students to play but it became stale quite quickly. I finally had a thought to make a creatable map that students could build out. The only restrictions on map size was the table. The students gravitated to this so much faster than previous iterations of the game. With some minor tweaks and playtesting, the game finished and we use it often at my company’s schools with most of our classes.
